Equipment Technician

We are currently recruiting for a Equipment Technician for the NIFRS based at Service Support Centre (SSC) Boucher Crescent.

Job Role

To be responsible for the inspection, servicing, modification, maintenance, and repair of breathing apparatus, plant and operational equipment ensuring they are fully operational to manufacturers specifications including the completion of all associated documentation, both written and electronic so there is a 24 hour availability of the vehicles.

To contribute as an integral member of the Fleet & Engineering team to the provision of a fully operation compliment of equipment to support the client.

1. To be responsible for the inspection, servicing, modification, maintenance, and repair of NIFRS breathing apparatus, plant and operational equipment ensuring they are fully operational to manufacturers specifications including the completion of all associated documentation, both written and electronic so there is a 24 hour availability of the vehicles.

2. To assist all other trades within Fleet & Engineering services where their skill set is more applicable to affect that repair, including all operational vehicles.

3. To service, inspect, maintain, fault-find and repair all clean air equipment including Breathing Apparatus ancillary equipment, cylinders, breathing air compressors & oxygen booster pumps to the required EN, Pressure Safety Systems Regulations and any other health & safety standards.

4. To inspect, maintain, fault-find and repair gas detection monitors, gas and chemical protection suits including powered respirator type, resuscitators, thermal image cameras and defibrillators to manufacturers and/or fire service standards.

5. To inspect, maintain, fault-find and repair to all rescue equipment used by the Fire Service, including high and low pressure hydraulic & electrical rescue systems using specialist test equipment, to comply with manufacturer or, where applicable Fire Service standards. This is to include all means of generating power and all tools utilised.

6. To ensure that all electrical equipment is tested and complies with relevant legislation and certify compliance.

7. To inspect, maintain, fault-find and repair all pneumatic equipment, including air lifting units and controllers to manufacturers and/or fire service standards.

8. To inspect, maintain, fault-find and repair all mechanical equipment, including ladders, working height kits, work restraint systems to manufacturers and/or fire service standards

9. To inspect, maintain, fault-find and repair of all water rescue and water passage equipment including lifejackets, branches, fog guns, High Volume Pump connections and hose, delivery hose and monitors to manufacturers and/or fire service standards

10. To assist in conducting all required asset tagging of vehicles and supporting equipment in line with company procedures

Essential

1. Possess a certified level 3 trade qualification as depicted in the NQF in one of the following subjects:

Mechanical

Electrical

Hydraulic

Pneumatic

Have at least two years’ experience working in a trade role in their area of expertise.

2. Can demonstrate:

(a) Excellent record keeping of computerised repair and inspection data;

(b) Excellent written & verbal communication skills

(c) A strong customer focus.

3. Competent in the use of Windows and other Microsoft applications.

4. Competent in the use of a Management Information System (MIS) for record keeping on repair data

5. Possess a current B Class driving licence.

The is role is a Full Time Temporary position working 36.25 hours per week
