A career as a Support Worker?


What is Support Work?

Our Support Services cover a range of roles across Children and Adult Services with the most popular roles include:

 

Child and Family Support Worker - As a family support worker, you'll offer practical help and emotional support to families experiencing short or long-term difficulties. You might help parents and children with a range of social and personal issues or specialise in a particular area such as domestic abuse, bereavement or homelessness.  These are community positions and you will need access to a car and the regular hours are Monday to Friday 09.00 to 17.00.

 

Children’s Residential Support Worker - To provide advice, assistance and support to young people. To attend to their practical, physical and emotional needs. To act as an appropriate role model and to work closely with them to enable them to address their difficulties and achieve their optimum potential.  These roles operate on a shift pattern and include days, evenings, nights and weekends.

 

Contact Worker  - To transport and supervise contact between service users in line with their care plan.  To maintain individual case loads and provide reports and information as required including giving evidence in Court.  Regular hours are Monday to Friday 09.00 to 17.00

 

Adult Day Care Support Worker – Providing practical support to adults with a range of additional needs.  These often include service users with dementia or learning disabilities.  You will provide one to one support or team activities and maintain a sense of community.  The role is usually Monday to Friday 10.00 to 15.00.   

 

How do I apply?

 

For all these roles you will need to meet the following criteria:

 

  • A relevant Health and Social Care Qualification, including HND, Level 3 and Above, Early Years, Youth Work or Education Certificate or minimum 2 years experience
  • A minimum of 6 months direct work with service users
  • NISCC registration

 

In addition, we look for candidates during the shortlisting and interview stage that display warm, empathy, resilience and ability to work in a team environment and great attention to detail.   So make sure to check your CV for spelling mistakes.

 

 

What’s available?

Since COVID many of our support services have been postponed or staff redeployed to other areas.   However since the end of June and start of July we are seeing a rise in vacancies in residential and a return to community services.   Our charity partners are also starting to return to active recruitment which offers alternative positions.
